eSIM activation iPhone 17
The iPhone 17 offers an automatic eSIM installation during device setup via an on-device notification (seamless eSIM):
- Turn on your device for the first time and complete the initial setup
- You’ll need to be connected to Wi-Fi during set-up to activate your eSIM
- After setup, wait for the notification to set up your Rogers eSIM
- Follow the prompts on your device.
- Go into your settings and make sure the new eSIM has been turned on for your device
If the prompt to set up the e-SIM is ignored or missed, you need to delete the existing e-SIM from the device settings as the first step to correct the issue. From there the department can order an e-SIM voucher from the Rogers Direct Site (under Accessories) or do a digital eSIM change from the portal.
*see details for both options at the top of this page
After the e-SIM voucher is activated against the line, scan the QR code as the final step.
Do not scan the QR code prior to activating the e-SIM against the line or the process won’t work and a new blank eSIM will be required.
.
TIP:
Make sure to always delete any existing e-SIM showing in the iPhone settings before trying to activate a new one through option 1 & 2.

**********New update April 2026**********
“Rogers 5G Digital Seamless SIM” is now a SIM option available on the ordering portal for select devices – mostly iPhones eligible for this SIM type.
The iPhone 17 is an ESIM-only device, this option will always populate for this device. The 5G Digital Seamless SIM is the default SIM type for iPhone 17’s.
This new SIM option can be chosen when upgrading a device or activating a new line.
“5G Digital Seamless SIM” OR “Seamless e-SIM” is a SIM that is sent directly to the device when you order a new activation or an upgrade for an ESIM eligible device. The SIM is embedded on the device and is installed during device setup via an on-device notification (called seamless eSIM):
- Turn on your device for the first time and complete the initial setup.
- You’ll need to be connected to Wi-Fi during set-up to activate your eSIM.
- Note: An error can occur due to an unstable Wi-Fi connection
- After setup, wait for the notification to set up your Rogers eSIM
- Follow the prompts on your device.
- Go into your settings and make sure the new eSIM has been turned on for your device
If the notification was ignored or missed, the user will get error when trying to activate. The department must order a blank Rogers 5G eSIM and complete a sim change for the user in BSS. When user gets the esim voucher, the sim number must be activated for their line before they scan the QR code with their device.
ESIM’s work much the same way, but the difference is the direct delivery of the SIM to the device that is listed as “Seamless eSIM”.
